The Need Analysis for Nursing English Speaking Materials for the First Semester’s Student of Nursing Study Program

Abstract

The objective of this research was to search the needs of Nursing English speaking materials for the first semester’s student of Nursing Study Program at Poltekkes Kemenkes Bengkulu. The design of this research was a qualitative descriptive research. The populations of this research were doctors, nurses, and lecturers. The samples of this research were five doctors, five nurses, and five lecturers. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire. The results of the research showed that there are three parts of the needs for nursing English speaking materials, that are Interactive communication for nurse in the hospital, Interactive communication for nurse to talk to the patient in the hospital, and Interactive communication for nurse to talk to the patient’s family. For Interactive communication for nurse in the hospital there are three needs that are Vital signs, Patient's blood transfusion and infusion, and the endorsement. For Interactive communication for nurse to talk to the patient in the hospital there are four needs that are Patient's complete data, Doctor’s instruction, Foods to be consumed, and prevent patient to do harmful actions. The last, for Interactive communication for nurse to talk to the patient’s family there are three needs that are Medical records of the patient, the forbidden foods, and Take care of patient cooperatively.
